Enormous #1 rated pastrami sandwiches and luscious cheesecakes are not the only items served at this classic New York City delicatessen.

A mountain of meat on rye, that’s a Carnegie Deli sandwich. With zero thought towards portion control, this lean, but oh so delicious, carnivore’s delight will be the lunchtime highlight of the week. To quote the menu, “your taste buds will throw a party in your mouth!” Opened in 1937, Carnegie Deli on 7th Ave. at 55th St. is a kosher-style delicatessen made famous in 1975 by New York magazine when they selected Carnegie Deli #1 pastrami sandwich. This neighborhood eatery is the quintessential New York deli where the walls are papered with celebrity signed photos and waitresses readily serve up an unmistakable New York attitude.

From Blintzes to Turkey Burgers

From the bowl of spicy pickle appetizer to the dreamy homemade cheesecake, this meal of colossal size will satisfy the most ravenous of appetites and quite possibly include the appetite of a friend! Although sharing a meal might be a first inclination consider that there is a $3.00 charge to split the fare. Instead, order up your own plate just to savor the tasty leftovers later. The staff is happy to provide a piece of wax paper just for this purpose.

The more than generous deli sandwiches are far from the only items served at Carnegie Deli. Breakfast can start the day with their award winning cheese blintzes or maybe your taste leans toward a bagel with Nova Scotia salmon and cream cheese. The large and varied menu offers everything from matzoh ball soup, potato pancakes, and giant knishes to grilled chicken salad and freshly ground turkey burgers. This wide variety of selection should appeal to a wide variety of palates.

Share a Celebrity Dining Experience

Looking around the restaurant, make a game of searching out signed photos of your favorite entertainers who have also shared the Carnegie Deli experience. The menu is a reflection of some of these past patrons with items being named of after them. Woody Allen has his own sandwich and there’s the Julienne Child Salad, just to name a few. Check your wallet and plan ahead for this deli dining experience because they don’t take credit cards. The Deli is open 365 days a year and offers catering and large group reservations. Also, they have two other locations, the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada and Six Flags in New Jersey. If a trip to the Big Apple isn’t on the calendar but there’s a craving for this classic taste of New York, not to worry, Carnegie Deli will Federal Express your order overnight!
